Nestled among the sun, sand, waves and stones of ancient times with a pinch of modern luxury is the Intercontinental Property of Mahabalipuram, Chennai. Mahabalipuram – a historical city located 60kms from Chennai, is famous for its history, sculpture and beaches.
Few weeks back on our southern trail of India, exploring the architecture and savouring food – we got a chance to experience 2 days of ultimate bliss at this majestic hotel. Intercontinental Chennai is a beautiful property with a private access to the beach, overlooking the Bay of Bengal.
Before reaching the hotel, we had created a picture of stunning architecture, comfortable rooms, vast greenery and delicious food in my head. We were in for a sweet surprise when everything that we had thought of was for real at the hotel.
As you reach the hotel via East Coast Road and move past the corridor, the hotel opens upto reveal a huge space to reveal a structure, i.e. the heart of the hotel, housing its restaurants, pool, pond, spa, rooms and suites.
With luxury at every turn, the hotel will pamper you from the moment you arrive with its services and amenities.
The property has – Executive and Classic Rooms and Suites to ensure a comfortable stay during your trip. We got a chance to stay at one of the exquisite suite which had a private balcony, stunning beach view (with sound of the waves at night), living lounge and a bathroom with a bathtub and double vanity. Ah!
The pleasure of staying at IC Chennai lies in the small details they take care of at the property!
If the suite wasn’t enough, the hotel also offers a relaxing time at the swimming pool and a full-service spa called Amrtam.
Built in 2015, the hotel has 3 different dining options for your tastebuds and have gone an extra mile to serve the best. Their main restaurant is called – The Melting Pot with a generous breakfast spread, Tao of Peng – a oriental speciality restaurant for which people come to eat from all the way to Chennai and The Gatsby – which is a newly opened bar and lounge to wind your evenings. Fine food and luxury always makes for a happy combination, stay tuned for a detailed experience of the hotel food in our next blog, coming soon.
While the food and luxury will give you a reason to love the property, the historic town of Mahabalipuram which is a short drive away from the hotel will complete your trip in every sense! Mahabalipuram is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site of India – Shore Temple. It also has the Pancha Rathas, Descent of the Ganges, Krishna’s Butterball, etc. Each with a beautiful architectural story to narrate and be in awe of, one can gladly spend an entire day here and see all the structures.
